Cycle Talks

A talk program titled as Cycle Talks was held at Martin Chautari, at 1:00 PM on 6^th August 2010. The program was organized by Kathmandu Cycle City 2020. The main aim of the talk program was to discuss over all about cycling and develop a concrete tract for Kathmandu Cycle City 2020's future.

Cycle users from diverse sectors like social workers, students, employee, leaders etc participated on the talk program and discussed on pros and cons of cycling, policies for cycle, cycle lanes and routes and many more subjects related to cycling. The world cyclist Mr. Pushkar Shah shared his experiences of 11 year long cycling around the world. Furthermore, the talk program came up with many ideas for developing the sustainable cycle friendly environment.

The program finally came up with two jobs to be done within some months; General survey of people interested in cycling in Kathmandu valley and starting a regular program called Critical Mass Nepal to pressurize government. General survey is regarded as a base for the Kathmandu Cycle City 2020 campaign and will include randomly selected 1000 people of Kathmandu valley from different sectors and different localities. Critical Mass Nepal program, derived from a campaign called critical mass that started at Ecuador, is a program to pressurize government to pay attention in developing infrastructure for cycling and also to turn ear to cycle user's voice as well, by blocking the road with cycles for short time duration. The program is scheduled to be organized every first Saturday of Nepali month starting from the first Saturday of Bhadra (5^th of Bhadra/21^st August 2010) at Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu.
